The causes of amnesia may include brain damage through injury or use of specific drugs. Other diseases such as a stroke can also cause amnesia. However it is usually caused by any brain disease.
Amnesia can also be caused by an emotional shock. These may include:
- being the victim of a violent crime
- child abuse
- being involved in combat (soldiers)
- being involved in a natural disaster
- being involved in a terrorist act
- to much alcohol
- being struck by lightning / electricity
- head injury
- brain surgery
